The 2008 membership drive is under way. A minimum of $25 is all it takes to join, and you do not have to be a past Club member to be eligible. All proceeds paid to the Fort Smith Boys & Girls Clubs Alumni & Friends support the Club's activities.

50 Years of Volunteering:

Jerry Kerwin has been a dedicated member of the Fort Smith Boys & Girls Club board of directors since 1958, where he has served as board secretary for 49 of those years.  he was inducted into the FSBGC Hall of Fame in 1993 for his active participation in the Fort Smith Boys & Girls Club.

Inductees Honored:

Four outstanding individuals were inducted into the Fort Smith Boys & Girls Club Hall of Fame at a banquet held November 6, 2006. The event took place at the downtown Holiday Inn. A crowd of more than 250 people helped celebrate the accomplishments of Dot Rappeport, Almer Lee, Chuck Holcombe, and David Plunkett, Sr.

Alumni board member Mike Redd served as the master of ceremonies. Club volunteer Ashley Washington was guest vocalist. Alumni President James Saviers helped recognize all previous Hall of Fame inductees who attended. Each of the inductees received a special Hall of Fame medallion. A video presentation highlighted the careers of each of the 2006 inductees.

Dot Rappeport was introduced by her youngest son, Dr. Steve Rappeport.  Dot was campaign coordinator for the $2.7 million Evans Boys & Girls Club project. She is a retired college educator and served as an United Way Executive Director for eight years. She is the first female to be inducted into the FSBGC Hall of Fame.

The late David Plunkett, Sr. was honored posthumously by retired UAFS Athletic Director Jim Wyatt. Plunkett's acceptance speech was offered by his children, Julie Mosley and David Plunkett, Jr. David Sr. was involved at the Boys & Girls Club for more than 50 years as a Club member, coach, mentor, unit director, sponsor, and Alumni Board member.

Almer Lee was honored by his long-time friend Buzz Wood. Wood and his wife Dewilla discussed Almer's influence on basketball in Arkansas. Lee was the first African-American to letter in basketball at the University of Arkansas. The former All-American excelled in sports as a young teen at The Club.

Chuck Holcombe was presented his award by Joe Holden. Holcombe coached baseball at The Club for 24-years, including 21-years as manager of the Kerwins American Legion team. Holcombe led his legion teams to 688 victories and State Championships in 1991 and 2004.
