Okla Homer Smith

A local businessman who served on the Fort Smith Boys & Girls Club board of directors for 56 years.  He founded the Okla Homer Smith Furniture manufacturing company in 1939.

Smith was instrumental in the development of the Fort Smith Boys & Girls Club endowment fund. Over the years, his strong advocacy of the endowment helped provide an annual revenue source for the organization.

Okla Homer Smith was board president in 1959-1960.  He praised the vision of his fellow board members Stanley Evans, Bob Dills, Tiny Gardner and Jim Alexander for the success of the Boys & Girls Club.  His son, Okla Ben Smith, joined the board of directors in 1974 and was board president in 1978-1979.  Okla Ben Smith continues to serve on the board.

Okla Homer Smith died December 11, 1992 at the age of 91.  He was involved with the Boys & Girls Club for six decades.
